Fatal crashes at highway rail grade crossings: A U.S. based study

چکیده

• Analyzed nine years (2010–2018) of fatal HRGC crashes. Applied multivariable graphical method TCA to perform pattern recognition. Identified six clusters risk factors. Crashes at highway rail grade crossings (HRGCs) are often involved with fatalities due the momentum a train. This study collected crashes from Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) analysis. The Taxicab Correspondence (TCA) was applied this dataset. identified several patterns that trigger HRGC-related findings indicate involving multiple highly associated alcohol-influenced drivers, poor lighting conditions, and inclement weather. crash occurs during daylight uninfluenced driver is less likely involve more than one fatality. results also recognized combinations vehicle type speed crossings. relatively low-speed limit larger utility vehicles be because large require longer time cross railroads low speed. high-speed crossing smaller or lighter vehicles, especially motorcycle,

Why has safety improved at rail-highway grade crossings?

The number of collisions and fatalities at rail-highway intersections in the United States has declined significantly over the past 30 years, despite considerable increases in the volume of rail and highway traffic. This article disaggregates the improvement into its constituent causes. Negative binomial regressions are conducted on a pooled data set for 49 states from 1975 to 2001. The analysi...

Using hierarchical tree-based regression model to predict train-vehicle crashes at passive highway-rail grade crossings.

This paper applies a nonparametric statistical method, hierarchical tree-based regression (HTBR), to explore train-vehicle crash prediction and analysis at passive highway-rail grade crossings. Using the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) database, the research focuses on 27 years of train-vehicle accident history in the United States from 1980 through 2006. A cross-sectional statistical ana...

An Exploratory Study Assessing Driver Behaviour at Highway-rail Grade Crossings Using On-road Test Vehicles

Crashes at rail level crossings represent a significant problem, both in Australia and worldwide. Advances in driving assessment methods, such as the provision of on-road instrumented test vehicles, now provide researchers with the opportunity to further understand driver behaviour at rail level crossings in ways not previously possible. This paper gives an overview of a recent onroad pilot stu...
